Death of Peggy O’Toole

The sad death occurred on November 24th last, after a short illness of Mrs Peggy O’Toole (nee Henry), Moigh, formerly Athlone at South Westmeath Hospice, pre-deceased by her husband Joe nineteen years ago. A daily Mass goer and a lady of deep religious faith, Peggy was always quiet and inoffensive and loved her family dearly, she always spoke of them with a great sense of pride and joy. In latter years, she really enjoyed it when her young grandchildren came to visit and likewise when she visited them, there was lots of coloured pictures drawn for Gran. As a pastime, Peggy loved to do her daily Crossword and the knitting needles were always close by, she really enjoyed knitting. Peggy was a most-obliging neighbour, always there to lend an ear and had a word for everyone, young and old. She will be sadly missed by her heart-broken family and many friends. Her remains lay in repose at her lovely home in Moigh during which time a huge number of people called right throughout the day into the late evening to pay their respects to Peggy’s daughter and sons and again at the Funeral Mass in St. Matthews Church. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Padraig McGowan, Ballymahon, assisted by Fr. Conlon, Tang, Fr. Murphy, Tang and Fr. Devine, Forgney , the Church was packed to capacity with her relatives and friends, many of whom travelled long distances, which bore testimont to the respect which has always been held for a lovely lady. Peggy’s sons and her late husband have been well-known Plumbers in the area for a long number of years. Peggy’s remains were laid to rest at Forgney Cemetery. Our sincere sympathy is extended to her sons Fergus, Joseph and Aidan, daughter Mairead, sister Kitty, brother Pat, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.

Leo Casey History Group

Their latest book Ballymahon “A Journey back in Time”, was published and launched in November 2013. It proved to be an outstanding success and sold out rapidly, at the end of the day many people had not managed to get a copy and requested if a reprint was possible. That limited reprint became available just recently in October. As Christmas now approaches, the History Group’s members would like to recommend this fascinating pictorial record of Ballymahon people and events of yesteryear, it would make a wonderful Christmas gift for anyone far from home or connected in any way with our town. Books are still available while stocks last at Hanly’s Newsagents and Nallys Service Station on the Longford road. If anyone did not get a copy of the book first time round, now is your “last” chance as there will be no further reprint.
