The recent Alzheimers Tea Day held in Ennybegs Community Centre raised 819 euro and they wish to sincerely thank everyone for their support.


Congratulations to Orla Toher, daughter of Frank and Ann, Ennybegs, who exchanged nuptial vows with Ronan O’Hara, son of Brian and Mary, Ballinamuck, joined by families and friends in St Mary’s Church, Ennybegs with a sumptuous lively reception held afterwards in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon. The parish express good wishes to Ronan, Orla and their families for a future filled with great health and happiness. Ah, Orla and Ronan, I missed you going past, but the damned rain beat Bailey and me back.

Pieta House

Well everyone had a very pleasant serene “Darkness into Light” first Longford walk on Saturday last, leaving the Mall Complex, Longford at 4.15am with rain and wind holding off. Great to see so many young people participating with our parish well represented. A very well organised operation with grateful appreciation to the organisers and stewards including our Killoe men Christy and Declan. Well done for total commitment to this worthy cause.

Church news

St Mary’s Church, Ennybegs, Masses Wednesday/ Thursday at 10am, Friday 8pm, Saturday 8pm (Maggie Murphy, Corlea). Exposition blessed sacrament, both churches, Wednesday 6 - 9pm. Bishop Francis has requested prayers for vocations to the priesthood throughout Ireland due to the dramatic decline and a projected loss of 22 priests due to retire at (75 years) within the next ten years. The bishops letter is available at all church doors for everyone to take home a copy.


Sincere sympathy is extended to Tommy Flanagan and families, Derryadd, Kenagh, Breege Quinn, (nee Flanagan) and families, Treanlawn, Killoe on the sad bereavement of Tommy’s wife, Ann (nee Baxter) who was laid to rest last week. The parish express condolence to her husband Tommy, daughters Carmel, Helen, sons Leo, Brendan, Kevin, sons/daughters in law, grandchildren, brothers/ sisters in law extended families friends. Requiem mass was celebrated in St Dominics Church Kenagh with burial in Shrule cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Irish Workhouse

The first national Irish Workhouse past and present conference will be held in Portumna, Co Galway on Saturday 17/ Sunday 18 May 2014. With operation in Ireland from 1840s – 1920s and one established in every area it was a feared, hated institution by all. Further information tel 090 9759200.

The parish extend sincere sympathy to the Penzer families, London on the sad bereavement of their mother, Mrs Mary Penzer, nee Clarke, late of Corlea, Killoe, and aunt of Josephine McCormack, (nee Reynolds) and families, Corlea, Mary Ledwith, (nee Reynolds) and families, Granard, Reynolds families, Longford, John Clarke and families, Corlea. Mary was in her seniority of 101 years with burial held in London. May she rest in peace.

Community Games

Our Annual Sports Day took place on Saturday last, the 3rd. May in Emmet Park. We had a great turnout of athletes and supporters. We would like to thank Emmet Og G.A.A. Club for the use of their grounds, all committee members, who helped to organise this event, and help out on the day, John Browne, Brian Donoghue, Mairead Moorhead, Brian Griffin and all the volunteers who helped out on the day.
