The Parents Association of St. Bernard’s N.S. Abbeylara are hosting a Cyber Bullying evening on this Wednesday, 5 March (8pm - 9.30pm) in the school hall. Guest speaker, Paula O’Connor, expert in Cyber Bullying Prevention will give a guide on how to keep your children safe. Valuable information - not to be missed. Everyone welcome.

Killasonna N.S.: Enrolment for September 2014 in Scoil Bhride, Killasonna will take place between 2pm and 3pm on this Thursday, 6 March 2014.


The guild meeting will take place on this Thursday, 6 March at 8pm in the Credit Union meeting room. Guest speakers will be from the Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Association. All are welcome. Hostesses for this meeting are Ann Donohoe and Peggy Dempsey.

Table Quiz

Agricultural Show

Granard Agricultural Show will hold their AGM on this Thursday, 6 March in John V’s Lounge at 9pm. All members are requested to attend and new members are very welcome.

Benefit Night

A benefit night in aid of the Sammon family, Bunlahy, following their recent house fire will take place in Creegan’s of Bunlahy on Saturday night, 8 March. Music by Chuck and June. Admission is optional - raffle will take place on the night. All support greatly appreciated.

Glotto results

The following are the results of the Draw in Boomerang Bar. Numbers drawn

A meeting of Granard Buttermarket Restoration Committee will take place on Tuesday, 11 March at 6 o’clock in Lus na Greine.  An engineer from Longford Co. Council will attend.  All interested please attend.

Tractor Run

On Sunday 16 March next, a Tractor run will leave from Creegan’s in Bunlahy and proceed to Granard, Abbylara, Lisryan, Edgeworthstown, Ballinalee and returning to Bunlahy. Registration which will cost 20 euro, will start at 10am and continue until 11.30 am and the run will leave at mid-day. All proceeds from the run will be shared between Suicide Awareness and Ballymore Football Club and all support will be greatly appreciated. For further details contact Noel on 0851743279.

Easter Festival

Plans are in place for the Easter Festival on Saturday, 19th and Sunday, 20th April. The festival kicks off on Saturday morning at 11am with a historical walk of Granard led by local historian Jimmy Donohoe. Jimmy’s tour is both very enjoyable and informative as he holds a wealth of knowledge about Granard’s history! On Saturday afternoon at 3pm, the gruelling 5K Walk/Jog/Run will start at Kiernan Milling! Entry is €10 per adult and €5 for U16 participants. Prizes are as follows - men 1st €100, 2nd €50 3rd €25 1st u16. Ladies 1st €100, 2nd €50 3rd €25 1st U-16 . Registration will take place from 2pm at Kiernan Milling. All walkers, joggers and elite runners are welcome. For more information call Patrick on 043 6687935. Later in the evening, the Novelty Tug-O-War will take place on Main Street. All businesses in the area are invited to enter a team of seven people. The cost is €20 per team. If your business or organisation would like to enter a team please contact Barry on 087 7625698. On Easter Sunday from 2pm onwards, there will be lots of fabulous entertainment for children and adults including fire eating, stilt walking and unicyclist from Corvenieos Entertainment. There will also be face painting and balloon modelling. The parade is expected to pass through Main St. at 2.30pm. Many floats have entered, but there is still time to join up if you wish to do so call Patrick on 043 6687935. The Madagascar circus will be in Granard after the parade with appearances by Marty the dancing Zebra, Alex the friendly Lion and Melman the hypochondriac Giraffe! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun! With such a variety of free, live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Easter Festival in Granard!

“Siopa” Lus na Greine

Our shop opens every Friday and Saturday and the first Tuesday of the month 10.00am to 5.00pm. We have a large stock of clothes of all sizes ranging from 8 – 24 - ladies gents and children. We also have a huge selection of books to suit all tastes 3 for €5. All monies raised in the shop go towards projects in the community.


Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard at 8.45pm. Proceeds to St. Mary’s GAA and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated. Jackpot this week is €14,600.

SVP Shop

Citizens Information

The outreach service continues at the offices of Granard Area Action Group each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. If you require information on any aspects of your rights and entitlements please call in and the information officer will deal confidentially with your query. The service is free to all.

Country Markets

The market continues every Friday beside the Post Office from 8-30am to 11am. Usual supplies of home baked fare, cards and crafts. Your on-going support is appreciated.

Adult Leaning Centre

Dance Classes

The next First Friday / Saturday Reparation and Adoration vigil to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary is in the Chapel of Our Lady’s Manor Edgeworthstown on  Friday the 7 March commencing at 10 pm.
