Are you ASIST trained?

If so would you like to become part of a community volunteer group who want to promote positive mental health and suicide prevention? Meeting will take place on Tuesday, 21st April at 7.30 p.m. at the EDI Centre Longford. If at all possible we ask all A.S.I.S.T personnel to attend this important meeting.


Foróige are trying to expand in Co. Longford and in particular in Drumlish. It looking for volunteers who would be suitable and interested in setting up a Foróige club in the Drumlish locality. Cairn Hill Challenge 2015

With the date set for May 3 continues this Thursday and every Thursday at 7pm from Drumlish Community Centre. Training is conducted by Brendan Doyle and is open to walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities. Sessions last 1 hour approx. and the cost is just €2, don’t forget comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. For more information contact Colin on 087 0761556

Tidy towns

Reminder of National Tidy Town’s Competition - We continue to focus on the 2015 judging season which starts in June to that end we are doing everything possible to reach the magic 300 in this June’s National Tidy Town’s competition. We appeal to townspeople to get buildings and paint work in order. Roof tops and eves are full of debris and the birds are leaving a very dirty mess on the pavements - There are two months in which to get things in order- mid June is judging time in Drumlish.

Golf Lessons

County Longford Ladies Golf Club are getting ready a package of 6 Beginner Lessons starting in early April - if you are interested or know of anyone interested - contact 086 8141023. Membership is not necessary for these lessons.

GAA Garda Vetting

If you have not returned you Garda Clearance form already please do so asap. Forms are available from Paddy Howe on 087 9613312. If you do not have current Garda Clearance you cannot be involved with underage teams.

Ballinamuck ICA AGM

The AGM of Ballinamuck ICA will take place on Monday night, April 13th in the meeting room upstairs in the ‘98 Hall, starting at 8.30pm. It is important that all members attend this meeting. We always welcome new members, why not drop in to one of our meetings, there might be something there of interest to you. There is plenty happening in Longford ICA. Craft classes are on going in Longford town, there are a number of trips planned over the next few weeks including participation in the Claire Byrne Live Show at the end of April, an invitation from the ladies of the WI in the North of Ireland to join them on their ‘Women Walk The World’ event. We will be joining women from the local Womens Institutes of Omagh to walk Gortin Forest Park and visit the Ulster American Folk Park. Federation will be running a bus to Bloom in the Park on Saturday May 30th. Rachel Dempsey ‘Global Harmonies’ will conduct a workshop around Music, Singing and Dancing, date and venue to be decided. Evelyn from the Emigrant Council will give a presentation and show a movie to raise awareness on ‘Turn off the Red Light Campaign’, date and venue to be decided. More details on those two events at a later stage. An Grianan, Garden Party is on Friday June 26th, and Longford Agricultural Show is on Sunday, July 5th. Longford Federation AGM is on Wednesday April 22 in the Rugby Club. Our President, May Campbell will be stepping down after her three years in office. We want to thank May for all the work she has put into the organisation to promote Longford ICA, which resulted in the formation of two new Guilds in Ardagh and Lanesboro and many new members throughout the guilds.

Blood Donor Clinic

The mobile unit will be in the Longford Arms Hotel, Longford on 7th/8th/9th April from 4.30 to 8.30p.m.


Marriage Support Training Accord is seeking sensitive and caring people to train as Marriage Education Facilitators to help young people who are preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. If you are willing to give up some voluntary time to train in this area, ACCORD would love to hear from you. Applications are open to those who are currently married in the Catholic Church or currently in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church and can convey a positive attitude to marriage.
