Best of Luck to all our PLC students as they begin the next step in their educational journey.

Longford GAA Post Primary indoor football

On Thursday last, 22 of our first and second year boys headed off to Edgeworthstown to take part in the Longford GAA Post Primary Indoor Football series. The series is being run by Longford Coaching and Games and is focused on improving the basic skill levels of the players. The new initiative called Pella developed by the GAA offers a meaningful indoor alternative during the winter months. The students of Lanesboro Community College were also in attendance on the day and both schools split into teams of 7 and played off against each other. The matches consisted of 8 minute games where the team’s objective was to score goals in a unique circular style goal that was suspended 2 meters off the ground. All the Templemichael College teams played extremely well on the day and thoroughly enjoyed their first experience of Pella. The Templemichael College GAA teams consisted of Dylan Gilna, Dylan Hanafee, Darren Mears, Darren Meares, Edgars Ozolo, Richie Doyle, Dwight Kelly, Kyrstian Surowiak, Jordan Kelly, Christopher Gibbons, Dylan Rossiter, Lukas Millauska, Jake Maguire, Dean Norton, Kyle Quinn, Joel Egwele, Brian Doyle, Daniel Reilly, Alex Gallagher, Peter Sheridan, Cian Quinn, Jordan T Kelly. The girls look forward to their opportunity of attending the blitz in the coming weeks and have begun training for the event.

Sport in Templemichael

Students are making use of our good weather and dry pitches with soccer and Gaelic training at lunchtimes. Teams will be taking place in tournaments for both soccer and Gaelic in the coming weeks under the coaching of Mr Wallace. Ms Jones has begun organising a table tennis league with the help of our student experts Phillip Stewart, Sebastain Tofilski and Conor Doyle. It is hoped to have coaching from the ITTA and weekly competitions with a view to participating in the Leinster league in the coming year.

First Years

The first years have settled into school life well with taster courses occurring in Technical Graphics, Business, Home Economics, Metalwork, Science and Art before they make their subject choices in October. All first year students are taking part in the book in bag programme bringing reading books with them from class to class and home for night time reading. The programme is running well. Students have a target of ten books to read before entry in our draw for phone credit and other prizes.
