Remember the late John Curry?: Anybody who grew up in Ballinamore in the late 70’s and 80’s will remember the late John Curry. John spent many years coming on holiday to Ballinamore before coming back to spend his final years there. Throughout his years in Ballinamore John took numerous photographs, got them developed and then gave them as a keepsake to the people concerned. If there is anybody out there with any of those photos, the library would like to get a copy of them with a view to putting them together as exhibition during the summer festival. Church of IrelanD: Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday Service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church.

Ballinamore PPS Closing Celebration: The final closing of the three post primary schools in Ballinamore at the end of May is being marked with a function on Sunday, June 2. All past and present students, staff and parents are invited to join in this celebration. The event starts with concelebrated mass in St. Patricks church Ballinamore at 5pm, which will be followed with a BBQ, entertainment, a chat and reminiscences in Meanscoil Fatima. The committee would welcome photographs, memorabilia, old uniforms or part thereof, old magazine etc. Photographs can be scanned and emailed to or dropped into or posted to the school office at St. Felims, where they will be copied and returned. Seán O’Heslin’s GAA – Scéalta na Seachtaine: Major Musical event in Páirc Sheáin Uí Eislin as part of the club’s 100 years Celebration there will be a major Concert in the Marquee in the Park on Thursday, June 27. On that night Eleanor Shanley accompanied by Frankie Lane and Paul Kelly will be joined by Charlie McGettigan and a host of other performers. This will be a memorable night which will mark the opening of the Readers Symposium supported by the International Fund for Ireland. A night to remember!

Lourdes: The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from May 27 to June 1 led by Bishop Leo O’Reilly. Bookings may be made for the Assisted Pilgrim Section with Rev Kevin Fay, Lavey on 087 857 9968 / 049 433 0018. Bookings for Hotels is through Mc Ginnity Travel, Coleman Road, Cavan on 049 4331 831. If anyone feels that someone in their family or a neighbour would benefit from taking part in this Pilgrimage they should contact Fr Fay. Early booking essential.

Annual MAY RUN: The Annual May Run Walk or Roll in aid of Cancer Research / North West Hospice will take place on Sunday, May 26 starting from Aughnasheelin Community Centre at 4pm. Entry fee €10. Sponsorship cards on request – contact Cáit at 087 2123703. Join the walk and you will not only support a good cause but you will also bring your friends and families together for a great fun afternoon. Last year 200 men, women, children, cats and dogs ran, walked, cycled and enjoyed a great afternoon in beautiful settings. Together with those who donated on line over €10,000 was raised for Cancer Research and this year we hope to exceed that for these two very worthy causes.

SOLAS GALLERY: It seems appropriate that as the Solas Art Gallery in Ballinamore launches its Members Spring Show on Friday, May 10 that spring seems to have arrived at last in the country. This exhibition gives the members a chance to throw off the gloom of a very long winter and celebrate with new work. Many of the members are using new techniques, new subjects, giving a fresh feel to this exhibition.

CHARITY WALK: A walk in aid of Pieta House Centre for the Prevention of Suicide and Self-Harm will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 11 from the Orchard Bar, Drumalee, beginning at 4am in the morning. The theme is ‘Darkness into Light’ so the walk begins before dawn and is timed to finish as the sun comes up. All proceeds will go to Pieta House Suicide Crisis Centre. Floral Pride 2013: Are seeking applications from community groups, schools and businesses who improve the appearance of their areas by planting trees, shrubs, flowers and keep their area looking fantastic! Launch: The launch night of Mary’s Meals Cavan Support Group - Step by Step to Feed a Child Campaign takes place at The Farnham Arms Hotel on Thursday, May 16 at 7.30pm.

LEITRIM FOR LIFE: The group would like to invite you to an information and discussion evening on the proposed X Case Abortion Legislation on Saturday, May 11 at 8.45pm (after 8pm mass) in Aughavas Parochial House.

ONE DAY FOR REHAB: RehabCare Ballinamore Will be hosting a fundraising event on Friday, May 17 in the resource centre here in Ballinamore from 12.30- 2.30pm. There will be a barbeque, cake sale and a sale of work. The cost of the barbeque will be €10 and this will include a glass of Wine.
