Feast of the Immaculate Conception: Saturday last the 8th Dec. was the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady and was a holy day of obligation.

There large congregations at both the morning Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran and the evening Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, Loughduff. Traditionally this was the start of the commercial side of Christmas and it was the day when country folk went to town to do their shopping and it also coincided with turkey markets as a result of which the housewife had her own money to spend. In later years shops are laden with Christmas stock from Halloween onwards so those who shop early have the best choice.

John Comaskey: There was much regret locally on the occasion of the death of John Comaskey, Carnagh on Wednesday last. John who has been in failing health for some time was predeceased by his brothers Jim, Paddy & Bernard (Bunny) and his sister Nan Cullen, Kilsarn and is survived by his Philomena McSeain, Drumcor, Cavan. John was a quiet and inoffensive person who like his brothers before him lived a simple life. Always busy they worked the family farm in the traditional way and were good neighbours who will be sadly missed in the area. We extend our sincere sympathy to Philomena, nephew, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.
