BEST KEPT SECRET!: Your local correspondent was badly caught out on Saturday night last when a group of family and friends gathered in the Breffni Arms Hotel & Leisure Complex to help him celebrate a significant birthday. It must have been the best kept secret in town last week but thanks to everyone who attended. He has already applied for the free banking and the Bus Pass will follow soon.
GAA: Arva continued their Junior Championship campaign on Thursday evening last when they played Templeport at the Corlough venue and after a hard fought encounter emerged victorious with 3 points to spare. Arva never reached the heights of the previous Friday and were under pressure for the full hour against a Templeport side that was eager to make the quarter finals. The losers hit another good patch when they hit 3 points in the 11th, 14th, 17th minutes but Arva replied again with a brace from Ciaran Brady and Bouchier in the 18th & 19th minutes. Ciaran Mc Manus was the chief scorer for Templeport with 6 points in total and he hit one of those in the 25th minute to which Peter Morris replied a minute later. With the minutes ticking away Templeport were awarded a free which hit the upright and Seamus Mc Aweeney pounce to finish it to the net but it was too late to change the result. A pointed free from Kevin Bouchier closed the scoring to send Arva into the quarter finals on a score line Arva 1-11 Templeport 1-8.
