St Patrick’s Arva - The domestic competitions got underway last weekend and Arva had a game against Killinkere in Reserve Division 3 on Saturday evening in Michael Cully Park which they won convincingly on a score of Arva 3-16 Killinkere 2-5.

St Patrick’s Arva - The domestic competitions got underway last weekend and Arva had a game against Killinkere in Reserve Division 3 on Saturday evening in Michael Cully Park which they won convincingly on a score of Arva 3-16 Killinkere 2-5.

This is a 13 a side competition and Arva were under pressure for much of the second half as they had a player sent off for a double yellow. The half time score was Arva 0-10 Killinkere 0-1with the Arva scores coming from Niall Fox 0-3, Conal Sheridan and Raymond Daly 0-2 each, Richard Keith, Shane Mc Entee and Barry Mc Hugh 0-1 each. Arva tacked on 3-6 in the second half thanks to Damien Simpson 2-0, Daly 1-2, Fox 0-2, Sheridan and Mc Hugh 0-1 each. Arva Team – John Kiernan, Shane Finnegan, Bryan Mc Entee, Conor Mc Entee, Shane Mc Entee, Raymond Brady, Brian Fitzpatrick, Richard Keith, Niall Fox, Barry Mc Hugh, Damien Simpson, Raymond Daly, Conal Sheridan. Subs Pat Mc Cabe, Darren Gray, Sean Donnelly, Philip Galligan, Shane Bouchier. Referee – Ollie Henry, Butlersbridge. On Sunday morning the Arva first team had a very useful work out against Aughavas at the Arva venue with Ronan Bannon , Gowna as Referee. After a good hour’s football the home side just shaded it by a narrow margin. Both teams will be in action this coming weekend with Ballymachugh as visitors to Arva on Sunday with the Reserve game at 2.00 o’clock. We would appeal to all supporters to come along and give the players some encouragement.


Interviewed on the Sports section of the Six- One News on RTE recently was the Vice Captain of the Dublin Hurling team Thomás Brady. He is a son of “White” Thomas Brady formerly from Gurteen who was a sterling footballer with Arva for many years.


Registration on this Saturday morning at 10.00 o’clock in the clubrooms. All Ladies wishing to play football this year must attend or send a family member. Underage training continues in St Patrick’s Hall on Monday evenings at 7.00 pm and all girls from age 6 years upwards will be very welcome. Please bring along your Birth Certificate if not already in.

A Foundation Coaching Course for Ladies football will be run on Saturday 9th April. Anyone wishing to take part should give their names to Geraldine Kiernan.


Continues every Sunday night with a great attendance in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva. There is over €3,000 in prizes on offer with two panels worth €500 each. With the prize money that is on offer it is rightly seen as one of the best sessions in the region – Eye’s down 9.00 pm sharp.

Agricultural Show Society

Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting on tomorrow Thursday night 31st March at 9.30 pm in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva. All members are requested to attend and new members are always welcome.


Congratulations are extended to Ann Marie and Eddie Ward, Farrangarve, Arva on the birth of a baby girl and to Jennifer and George Smith, Brankhill, Arva on the birth of a baby boy. Both happy event’s occurred recently in Cavan General Hospital.

Active Age

Arva Active Age – are making a 4 day trip to Killarney – 3 B&B / 4 Dinners – from Monday 13th June to Thursday 16th June staying in the Gleneagle Hotel and including daily tours and nightly entertainment. The all inclusive price is €250 for club members and €299 for non members – per person sharing while there is a single supplement of €15 per night. The bus will leave St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 9.30 am sharp on Monday 13th and arrive home at approximately 8.00 pm on Thursday 16th. Sale of work

Blodo service

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will visit St Brigid’s Community Centre, Lough Gowna on today Wednesday 30th and tomorrow Thursday 31st March from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm each day. All donors are requested to bring a friend. It is important that we all remember that many patients in hospitals need our blood and this need never ceases.
