Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi
Fianna Fáil Longford County Councillor Uruemu Adejinmi has given her backing to a government backed decision to increase social housing thresholds by €5,000.
Cllr Adejinmi said the move will ensure more families in Longford will now qualify for social housing and Housing Assistance Payment as a result.
"Extending the housing income threshold means that a single person in Longford earning under €30,000 a year will be entitled to apply for social housing, rising to €35,000 for a family with four children," she said.
Cllr Adejinmi's comments come on the back of criticism by a number of local elected members after it emerged the county was omitted from being included alongside five other counties that have seen income limits for the eligibility for social housing increased.
"A broader review of the social housing model is expected to be completed in 2023 and I look forward to the outcome of that review and its implications for Longford residents," added Cllr Adejinmi.
