Judge Seamus Hughes fines Galway man over Public order spat

A county Galway man has been fined after becoming embroiled in a public order incident in Longford town earlier this month.

Barry Sears, of Tiernascragh, Ballycrissane, Ballinasloe, Co Galway tendered a guilty plea to Section 4 and Section 6 offences at Main Street, Longford on February 3 2019 at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court.

It was revealed Mr Sears had been arrested by gardaí after he was found in an intoxicated state at 3am. Solicitor for the accused, Frank Gearty said Mr Sears’s actions were totally “out of character”.

It was also revealed the carpenter had struggled to maintain gainful employment due to a previous and unrelated driving disqualification.

Judge Seamus Hughes fined Mr Sears €200 for the Section 6 threatening and abusive behaviour charge while striking out the other Section 4 charge of being intoxicated in a public place.
