Chic Beauty Salon, 25 years in business this December, is hosting a weekend celebration to mark this very special occasion.

Margaret McEntee, proprietor of Chic Beauty Salon, opened the salon on 34 Dublin Street, Longford, on December 12, 1993, the same date as her mother Chris’ birthday.

Margaret started out as a general and psychiatric nurse after completing her studies in The Richmond. She then worked in St Loman’s Hospital, Mullingar, for 11 years.

Margaret always had a great passion for beauty and with this passion in the back of her mind for years, she decided to take the leap and do a beauty course. Margaret opened her first beauty salon in Granard, Co Longford, where she built up a great clientele, over 6 years.

The opportunity then arose to move to Longford town.

At the time, there was only one other beauty salon in Longford.

Starting out with a small salon with only 3 treatment rooms, Chic Beauty Salon has now expanded to having seven luxurious treatment rooms, which cater for beauty treatments such as facials, tanning, waxing, lashes, brows and nail care.

Margaret recently expanded her business to open a Laser Clinic called “Laserworks Clinic”, offering laser hair removal and skin treatments.

For the past 25 years, Chic Beauty Salon has been constantly upgrading and progressing with the latest beauty training and technology.

This has aided in Chic Beauty Salon winning numerous 'Salon of The Year' awards.

Margaret is very grateful for the loyalty of customers for the past 25 years; “The kindness, generosity and loyalty of our customers over the years has been immense and we really are grateful to every single customer who have made the past 25 years so enjoyable.

"We have built up a male and female clientele with some of our customers starting from the age of eight years old right up to our oldest customer who is 95.

"Some of our customers have been with us for the last 25 years.

"Recently we were saddened by the death of one of our first ever customers, Sile, who brought joy and laughter on every visit to the salon.

"Although many of our customers live their own busy lives, each and every customer brings a positive vibe and energy to the salon. It’s the people that we meet every day that make our job rewarding”.

Like many industries, the beauty industry is constantly changing.

Nowadays, there are many stand-alone nail bars, brow & lash bar and freelance make up artists. Therefore, as a salon owner, you constantly need to keep up with these changes.

“We at Chic Beauty Salon are proud to offer everything beauty-related all under one roof,” Margaret stated.

Margaret is very grateful for the support from family and friends all through the years; “I would like to say a huge thank you to my family and friends for their support all down the years. Here’s a small example: one of my best friends, Josephine McCloughery, helped me paint the outside of the salon before opening 25 years ago.

"The mentoring and advice from other friends and family has really helped me to boost my business.

"I would also like to thank local business networks for the support, especially to our ‘Business to Business’ networking group who have kept me motivated and enthusiastic.

"I am so grateful for all the experiences in my business, the low times really make you appreciate the highs.

"I have been really blessed with staff since the beginning of my beauty career and I’m very lucky at the moment to have an enthusiastic and dynamic group of girls who want to give the best to each and every customer.”

Margaret shares a glimpse of her view for the future of Longford, “Longford has lots to offer in terms of hair, beauty and fashion to name but a few. I feel there are exciting times ahead for Longford, with the new Omniplex Shopping Centre opening, Center Parcs in Ballymahon, new ownership and renovation of PV’s and the new Supermacs facilities. Longford is soon going to be the bustling town that many will want to visit.”

To celebrate this very special Anniversary, Chic Beauty Salon are hosting a Ladies Evening on Friday, December 14 from 5pm – 8pm and a Men’s Afternoon on Saturday, December 15 from 12 noon – 2pm.

The Ladies Evening will include expert speakers on Skincare, Laser Hair and Skin Treatments, Botox and Dermal Fillers, Health and Wellbeing and to add a little flavour, a Wine Consultant will be there to help you “unwined” before the silly season.

The Men’s afternoon will include expert speakers on Fitness and Lifestyle, Health and Wellbeing, Skincare and Laser and of course, general grooming.

“We hope you can join our weekend celebration this weekend. With many discounts and treats, it’s promised to be a fun, informative and festive-filled weekend!”
