During a recent meeting of Longford Municipal District, Cllr John Browne (FG) called on the local authority to have the path along the Ballinalee Road cleaned of leaves and dirt, and widened back to its original state from the entrance to Ard Michael out to the roundabout, down to the Laurel Lodge Nursing Home and back up to the Red Cow Roundabout.
Cllr Browne brought the matter forward through a notice of motion at the meeting which was held in the newly renovated former town council building at the Market Square.
“This speaks for itself,” the local area representative in Longford town continued.
“It is gone so slippery now that it needs to be power washed.”
Area engineer, Eamonn Bennett then pointed out that Longford County Council had already cleaned leaves off footpaths and was currently clearing them from along the bypass.
“We will extend the cleaning to include the footpath along the Ballinalee Road,” Mr Bennett concluded.
