The AGM of Carrick-on-Shannon Education Centre takes place in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday, March 13.
Teachers from all the schools in the Centre’s catchment area of Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon are invited to attend.
The formal business of the AGM will commence at 7.15 pm and will include the annual reports, chairperson’s address and the election of the committee for the coming year.
The Management Committee includes primary and post primary teachers and may also include a teacher/lecturer from a third level college, a Parents’ representative, and a representative of early childhood education as well as a retired member of the teaching profession.
Following the conclusion of the formal business of the AGM the guest speaker, Dr Finn Ó Murchú will address the meeting.
The title of Dr Ó Murchú’s presentation will be “New Collaborations and The Role of Education Centres”. He will also offer some insights including new resourcing model and required skill set of schools.
Finn was appointed to his current position in summer 2016. His interests in education include teacher education, leadership and inclusion. His PhD research focused on inclusive learning with particular reference to team teaching. He joined the Inspectorate in 2004 and was appointed senior inspector with particular responsibility for special education. His other interests include educational leadership and pedagogical practices including teacher professional development.
He initiated and continues to work closely with the now nationwide teacher-led Instructional Leadership Programme. He also works closely with the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education and is currently involved, with others, in a longitudinal study, sponsored by the NCSE, and focused on Initial Teacher Education for Inclusion 2015-2018. His most recent publication is a co-authored chapter in International Perspectives on Inclusive Education Vol 8 (2016).
