Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke TD attended the Longford Association’s 135th Anniversary Celebration Dance in The Bronx on Saturday, March 14.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating the enduring spirit and culture of the Longford diaspora in New York.

The Guests of Honour were Pat and Dermot Yorke.

Hailing from the Ballymahon / Carrickedmond area, Pat played football for both parishes and in 1984 moved to NY. Dermot played his adult football for Carrickedmond before emigrating in 1992.

In NY, the brothers played for Longford and Rockland and served as officers with the Longford Association and Longford Football Club.

Pat and Dermot have spearheaded fundraising events for many years for both organizations, as well as the Carlow East Charity and the Jack Ross Memorial golf outing. One charity that has a special meaning to them is the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, a truly remarkable and successful endeavor born out of the tragic loss of Kevin Bell in 2013.

Pat lives with his wife, Patricia, in Pearl River, NY and they have two daughters, Katie & Kelly. Dermot lives in Manhattan with his wife, Siobhan and they have two daughters, Fiona and Hayley.

Marian Armstrong Duggan and Laura Armstrong Weaver were the recipients of the Michael Prunty Distinguished Service Award.

It is fitting that the 2026 Michael Prunty Distinguished Service honour was awarded to Mike’s nieces, Marian & Laura. Since losing their beloved brother, Michael, on September 11, the sisters have kept his memory alive through the Michael J. Armstrong Memorial Foundation.
