Fine Gael Senator Paraic Brady played a prominent part in opening dialogue between the Government and fuel price protestors
A Longford Oireachtas member has said he fears the war in Iran, if it continues and the disruption to global oil supply persists, may lead to even greater problems accessing fuel over the coming weeks.
Fine Gael Senator Paraic Brady played a prominent part in opening dialogue between the Government and fuel price protestors ahead of a meeting with government ministers on Friday afternoon.
He said the disruption to ordinary people was unfortunate, but he described the Government's measure implemented last month of a 3c reduction in green diesel as an 'insult' to farmers.

Senator Brady said he fears we have not seen the worst of the war in Iran yet which has seriously compounded an already bad situation and there could be even greater pain ahead for ordinary people trying to get to work and make hospital appointments.
"I don't think we've even seen the worst of it yet. I'd be fearful that we actually mightn't even get enough fuel if this war in Iran doesn't stop.
"That's what I would be fearful of, like, we need that war to end and they're saying that our oil doesn't come through the Strait of Hormuz.

"It doesn't, 25% or 30% of the world's oil comes through that Strait, but when you take that 30% that's not moving, it puts a strain on the other 70% that's out there."
