The Ballinalee Players production of John B. Keane's powerful classic ‘Sive’ played to packed houses in Thomas Ashe Hall recently.

The dedicated cast and crew were in rehearsals over the Winter months before their impressive staging of the play on on the weekend of February 27 / 28 and March 1.

The Ballinalee Players, a theatre group rooted and formed in and from the community of Clonbroney parish, reformed some ten years ago and have enthralled, entertained and amused in equal measure in their annual productions since their formation.

‘Sive’ is a thought provoking play, based loosely at the time of its writing on real events from times past in the 1940s and 50s rural Ireland.

At its heart are serious themes with a tragic outcome, and whilst known well to theatre goers, it represented something of a departure by the Ballinalee Players from more comedic based genre into tragedy.

The play was cast and directed by Martina Reynolds, one of the original founding members of the troupe ten years ago and committed every year since to the successful production year on year.
