'It feels like a celebration': North Longford students discover the joy of dance fitness

Midlands Jazzercise instructor Maggie (McWeeney) Lieb led a Jazzercise fitness session for sixty students at Moyne Community School

Music, laughter and high energy filled the hall at Moyne Community School on Wednesday, March 4 as sixty students took part in a vibrant dance fitness session led by Midlands Jazzercise instructor Maggie (McWeeney) Lieb.

Dancing to favourites from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez and the Jonas Brothers, the students quickly found their rhythm, not only mastering the choreography but singing along throughout.

What could have felt like a typical workout turned into something much more - a celebration of movement, music and confidence.

For Maggie, the visit was about encouraging a healthy mindset around exercise. “I wanted them to see that movement can be joyful,” she explained. “When you love what you’re doing, it doesn’t feel like punishment — it feels like a celebration.”

Maggie shared that discovering dance fitness 33 years ago changed her life. Since then, she has taught and participated in classes in the United States, Japan, and now Longford.

Midlands Jazzercise holds regular classes at St John’s Hall in Longford (around the corner from the Omniplex) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 10am. Contact: midlandsjazzercise @gmail.com
