BREAKING NEWS: Gardaí arrest two men in connection with violent Longford double stabbing

The arrests were made after two men were stabbed in Teffia Park on February 9 last

Local gardaí arrested two men yesterday in Longford in connection with a violent double stabbing last month.

The two men, aged in their 30s and late-teens, were arrested on Monday morning at 11am in the county town under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí can detain the pair, excluding rest periods, for a maximum of 24 hours in accordance with that legislation.

A Garda spokesman said, "Gardaí continue to investigate following an alleged incident of assault that occurred in Longford town on Monday 9th February 2026 at approximately 9pm.

"Two adult males, one in his 30s and another in his late teens were arrested and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region. "

Armed officers rushed to the scene in Longford town at around 9pm on Monday night, February 9 when two men, aged in their 20’s and 30’s, were stabbed in Teffia Park at around 9pm.

Gardaí sealed off an area near Teffia Park estate after the violent incident.

A second scene was subsequently sealed off outside Longford garda station when attackers brought the more seriously injured of the two victims to Battery Road where they dumped him on the path in the area.

Forensic officers examined the Battery Road scene and a man was subsequently rushed to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital.
