Longford farming news: Upcoming workshop will help organic farmers to remain compliant

The workshop will include a brief overview of the main rules around organics

Teagasc in conjunction with Irish Organic Association IOA are holding a public workshop in the Teagasc office Roscommon F42 XC63 on Tuesday, March 3 at 4pm on organic inspections and record keeping.

The aim of the workshop will be to help organic farmers remain compliant with the organic standards and tips around how best to maintain records.

Given that the average organic payment nationally is now €11,000 it is especially important that farmers protect this payment.

The workshop will include a brief overview of the main rules around organics.

An IOA inspector will then talk about keeping the farm complaint and the main non compliances they find while out on farms completing inspections.

There will also be some time given to tips around keeping organic records.

Lastly there will be an opportunity for farmers to discuss any issues they may have with the Certification Body and questions will be welcomed at any stage.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for organic farmers to refresh their knowledge around the organic standards, learn about common penalties, protect their organic payment and will be well worth attending.
