Judge makes decision on Longford husband and wife who admitted affray at service station

The case was heard at Longford

A judge has directed a Probation Report is completed in respect of a husband and wife who have admitted affray at a Longford filling station.

Johnny Nevin (29), and his wife, co-defendant Michelle Nevin (30), both of Richmond House, 12 Legion Terrace, Townspark, Longford, both pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to the affray, which took place outside Hanlon’s Gala, Dublin Road in the county town.

Sergeant Enda Daly, for the State, said the offence is alleged to have taken place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at approximately 9.30am when a large number of people were present in the store.

“Both parties were present along with three others when they were involved in a physical and verbal altercation outside the shop.

“There were a number of people present, the fight was covered on CCTV footage and all four individuals were charged and are before the courts.”

Sgt Daly said the violent disorder lasted a number of minutes and there were no implements used.

Johnny Nevin had three previous convictions.

Sgt Daly said the most recent imposed at Longford Circuit Court on June 11, 2021 for a violent disorder offence on December 15, 2019 and a one year prison sentence that was suspended for five years.

Sgt Daly said the defendant also received a three year jail sentence, which was suspended for 10 years, for a violent disorder offence on December 16, 2019, while production of an article in the course of a dispute was taken into consideration.

The court heard Michelle Nevin had no previous convictions.

Judge Bernadette Owens directed that a probation report is completed on Johnny and Michelle Nevin and she remanded both on continuing bail before adjourning the case until May 12 next.
