Longford man stopped by Garda after midnight found with ‘axe hanging out of sportsbag’
A man who was found to have “an axe hanging out of his sports bag” is set to appear before Longford District Court again on March 10.
A recent sitting of the court heard how Mr Aaron Hartshorn, who has an address of Colehill, Longford, was stopped by Garda Padraig Shanley on the Connacht Road in Longford town just after midnight on Sunday August 10 last year.

The court heard that when Garda Shanley stopped the defendant, who was known to him, he carried out a search during which he “noticed an axe hanging out of a sports bag” that was in Mr Hartshorn’s possession.
Mr Hartshorn was brought to Longford Garda Station where he was then discovered in possession of drugs to the value of €50 when searched. Solicitor for the accused was John Anderson. Judge Owens accepted jurisdiction on the matter.

Mr Hartshorn was given a plea date of March 10 which is where he will formally respond to the charges against him with a plea of guilty or not guilty.
