It has been officially confirmed that Longford Town will get a long-awaited family resource centre with the announcement coming on Tuesday, almost two weeks after Children's Minister Norma Foley visited the designated centre.
Minister Foley met community groups representatives and local Oireachtas members and politicians during her visit to the Attic House where she praised the work and a presentation made to her on the need for a Longford town FRC.
The Longford family resource centre (FRC) steering committee, chaired by Veronica Brennan, along with other agencies, had put together a comprehensive application.

A Needs Assessment Report published last July highlighted that Longford had one of the highest levels of deprivation in the country.
Longford Fianna Fáil Senator Joe Flaherty said it was 'excellent news for Longford' that the county town has been named as one of 10 new areas in the country to benefit from a family resource centre.
He stated there was obviously huge disappointment when Longford was not selected as one of five locations to see the establishment of a family resource centre last September.
Senator Flaherty said he 'emphasised' the need for a family resource centre to Minister Foley who engaged with him and she realised the importance of an FRC for Longford.
Longford Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy, who was on the steering committee, said more than two weeks ago, prior to Minister Foley's visit that he was '100% confident' Longford town would soon be announced as getting an FRC.
