The late Jim Moran, Fairgreen, Arva, Co Cavan

The death occurred in Cavan General Hospital on Monday, December 29, 2025 of Jim Moran, Fair Green, Arva and formerly from Gartylough, Arva.

Jim was a very popular figure in the community and was well respected by everyone who knew him.

In his youth he moved to Luton for work but the call of home was too strong and after some time he returned to Ireland and worked for a time in Laragh House, Stradone.

Moving nearer home he worked in Monery By-Products and eventually he worked with Gerry Ellis and Sons from where he retired.

Among his hobbies were darts for which he won many medals – snooker and pool were high on the list and when it came to quiz’s he was one of the best. Whether it was a pub quiz or a table quiz Jim would excel.

Fishing was a big passion for Jim and his Sunday evenings were spent on the local lakes. He married his wife of 43 years Mary in September 1982 and together they reared their daughter Deirdre. He would have celebrated his 81st birthday next week.
