Longford District Court hears the five defendants from Edgeworthstown were served with the book of evidence

Five men accused of being involved in a violent disorder incident in Longford town on May 6 last year have been sent forward to stand trial.

Tom Stokes (19), Kevin Stokes (33), Dylan Stokes (27), Pierre Stokes (25), and Jonathan Wykes (47), all of Lisnanagh, Edgeworthstown, county Longford all appeared at the local district court charged with the same offence.

The five men are charged with violent disorder, relating to an incident at New Street, Longford.

It is alleged the quintet 'being one of three or more persons present together used or threatened to use unlawful violence'.

Garda John Creegan told the court that he served all five defendants with the book of evidence.

Sergeant Mark Mahon said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had given permission for the defendants to be sent forward to the next sitting of Longford Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Bernadette Owens delivered the alibi warning to the men and informed them that if they wish to rely on an alibi warning they must inform the prosecution within 14 days.

Legal aid was granted in the name of solicitor, John Anderson for one counsel before the men were remanded on bail to appear before Longford Circuit Criminal Court again on February 3 next.
