Skipathon
raises funds for local charities

Longford Brownies made a donation to two local charities, 'Dreams Come True' and 'Darkness into Light -Longford'. On Thursday evening last the Brownies took over the Market Square and had a skipathon so the girls had plenty of fun while helping local charities.
Longford Brownies were among thousands of Irish Girl Guides who skipped into summer last week as part of a national Skipathon.

Longford Brownies were among thousands of Irish Girl Guides who skipped into summer last week as part of a national Skipathon.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed taking to the Market Square for some fun and exercise! And in conjunction with the Skipathon they raised funds for two local charities - Elizabeth Yorke (Dreams Come True) and Catherine Lane and Frances McCarrick (Darkness into Light).

Health promotion is an important aspect of the Irish Girl Guides’ programme and the girls regularly engage in different activities that promote energetic fun as well as learning about healthy eating, relationships and self-esteem.

“The girls love getting out into the open air and learning new skills and trying new challenges,” said Sandra McDermott, a Leader with Longford Brownies.

Ms McDermott added, “By trying their hand at different challenges, both indoors and outdoors, Guiding gives girls an opportunity to develop self-confidence and leadership skills while making new friends and having a lot of fun at the same time.”

Irish Girl Guides welcomes new, young leaders from 15+ and adult leaders from age 18. To find out more, contact Sandra @ longfordigg@gmail.com or see www.irishgirlguides.ie
