RIP: Longford mourns death of well known and highly skilled stone mason Charlie Doyle

The late Charlie Doyle, Mosstown, Kenagh, Longford

Sadly we record the death of local man, Charlie Doyle, Mosstown and Kenagh village. Charlie, who was just about seventy years old, had been ill for some time and died in Mullingar hospital on Monday, December 22.

Charlie was a very well known and popular tradesman in the locality, all his adult life having carried on the trade which was very much part of his family tradition for many decades.

Charlie was an easy going soft spoken gentleman, very inoffensive and very good natured. Charlie was a highly skilled tradesman with special emphasis on stone wall masonry.

In fact Charlie built the landmark grotto at Saint Dominics Church in Kenagh village. His work as a stone mason is evident in many places over south Longford.

We offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Betty, brothers Brian and Sean, his sisters-in-law Irene, Tess, Anne and Breda, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends & neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard & May, his brother Tommy, nephew Gavin and grandnephew Thomas.

Charlie was laid to res in Shrule cemetery after his funeral mass in Saint Dominic’s Church, Kenagh on Wednesday, December 24.
