The case was heard at Longford district court
A Longford town man who told the Gardaí to 'f**k off' has been remanded on bail and will appear again in court early in the new year.
Stephen Murtagh of 3 Victory Court, Earl Street pleaded guilty at the local district court to a public order breach and being drunk and disorderly in a public place at Main Street Longford on November 4, 2025.
Sergeant Enda Daly, court presenter, alleged the defendant was observed at Main Street Longford at 8.10pm standing on the road with ‘no top on’.
“He was shouting abusive language at a group of people and the Gardaí telling everyone to f**k off and he was looking for a fight.
“Speaking with the male his speech was slurred and there was a strong smell of alcohol from his breath.”
Sgt Daly said the defendant was a danger to himself and others.
Solicitor Diarmuid Quinn, defending, said his client would be pleading guilty to the offence and the accepted the details given by Sgt Daly.
Judge Bernadette Owens remanded him on continuing bail and adjourned the case until February 10, 2026 for Garda directions.
