A recent meeting of the Longford Municipal District heard that a second traffic warden - and possibly a third - would be starting in the new year.

The subject arose during Cllr Kevin Hussey’s motion to introduce clamping on cars - but only those parked in disabled bays, loading bays, and taxi ranks.

Cllr Seamus Butler said he didn’t believe one extra traffic warden would be sufficient as the problem had now reached a chronic stage.

Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi agreed the issue of illegal parking was a big problem and said she believed there would be a second traffic warden starting soon and “maybe a third one as well.”

Senior Executive Engineer, Peter Brady, confirmed the recruitment process was “currently underway for the position of traffic warden.”

He added that this would increase the council’s visibility on the streets which would be a deterrent for illegal parking.
