Cllr O'Toole said concerns have been raised by local residents in relation to the speed of passing traffic
A Fianna Fáil councillor has called on Longford County Council to consider erecting digital speed safety signs in county Longford.
Cllr Pat O'Toole submitted a motion last week during the monthy meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District where he requested digital speed safety signs should be installed on the Mullingar Road R392 before the entrance to the Creevaghbeg Housing Estate, and on the Edgewothstown Road the N55 where the current speed limits start from the Edgewothstown direction.
Cllr O'Toole said there are 55 houses in that general area and there are safety concerns in relation to the speed of passing traffic and concerns have been raised by local residents.
The motion was seconded by Cllr Mick Cahill.
Senior Executive Engineer Brian McNeela said Longford County Council will take the information on board and survey the locations before a final decision is made.
"If there is a speeding issue Longford County Council will also write to An Garda Síochána to carry out appropriate enforcement," he added.
