The late Lt Col Ron Gallagher, Mount Merrion, Dublin
The Gallagher family lived on Main Street for many years and were a staple Lanesboro family.
Guard Gallagher and his wife had a family of eight children who were well respected in our community and they involved themselves in all the events of our community.
Lt Col Ronald Gallagher, a resident of Mount Merrion, Dublin, passed away on Sunday, September 7.
As with the Gallagher lads Ronald played with the Rathcline underage teams until a knee injury cut his footballing career short.
Following his schooling in Lanesboro and St Mel’s College he went on to join the army and rose through the ranks to become Lt. Colonel.
Within the army his expertise was in Ordinance corps where his expertise was in explosives. This specialised training was not wasted as when he retired from the army he successfully went into business in the importing and selling of munitions.
