Deputy Micheál Carrigy has welcomed confirmation that Longford Local Sports Partnership (LSP) will receive €111,800 in funding through the Dormant Accounts Fund to support community sports and physical activity initiatives across the county.

The funding is part of a national investment of €4.17 million announced by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan TD, Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy Charlie McConalogue TD, and Minister of State for Community Development and Charities Jerry Buttimer TD.

Deputy Carrigy said:

“In Longford, we’ll see €33,000 for our Community Sports Hubs, €30,000 for Sports Inclusion Disability Projects, and €28,800 for the Disability Training Framework.

I am particularly happy to see funding of €20,000 towards programmes for volunteers and upskilling in Longford. Our volunteers keep our initiatives running smoothly and we must offer them the opportunity to get all the training they need.

Our sports clubs are at the heart of our community, bringing people of all backgrounds together. Through this funding I hope that even more people will be able to enjoy the benefits that sports participation and a healthy lifestyle can bring.”

The Dormant Accounts Funding utilises unclaimed funds from credit institution accounts to support projects targeting those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, or those affected by disability.
