Saturday, August 9 sees Kilbeggan Races host its Summer Saturday Festival Race meeting and it promises to be an especially big occasion for well known Longford company Kenny Plant Hire (Moydow) who are sponsoring the third race on the seven race card.

There is a €10,00 prize fund for the Bernard Kenny Maiden Hurdle over 2m. 3f.

Away from the action on the track, Longford punters will be in high spirits as they join Barney Kenny to celebrate his milestone 80th birthday in the balcony suite.

With a fully sponsored card on the day, some excellent horse racing in store – 4 hurdles, 2 steeplechase and a flat. The Joe Cooney Memorial Race always attracts top quality horses.

Last year’s winner of this race was Run For Oscar, trained by Charles Byrnes. Run For Oscar beat Macgiloney from the Denis Hogan stables, in what was a fantastic finish. Run For Oscar had finished in Royal Ascot previously.

The John “Chucky” Dunne memorial race was won last year (under a different sponsor), in tremendous fashion by The Dara Man, trained by the very popular John Ryan stables in Tipperary, who always farms the races in Kilbeggan.

With a variety of other entertainment like bouncy castles, face painting, ice-cream van, delicious food and drink and music, it really is going to be a great evening out for everyone.

The first race is expected to be at approximately 5pm, gates will open at 3pm.
