Well-known local solicitor Fiona Baxter is set to be announced as the new State Solicitor for county Cavan.

Ms Baxter qualified as a solicitor in 2010 and she acquired the well established and renowned practice of Bríd Mimnagh in 2020, forming Baxter Mimnagh Solicitors in Longford town.

It is understood she will take up the role in the autumn.

She was congratulated in a subtle manner on her appointment by presiding Judge Vincent Deane at Longford District Court last Tuesday, July 29.

Ms Baxter celebrated being honoured as Civil Litigation Lawyer of the Year for Leinster in June in Dublin's Clayton Hotel.

The Longford law firm were also nominated as finalists in the category of Medical Negligence and Personal Injury Lawyer/ Law Firm of the Year.
