For the third year in succession, Gerry Hagan’s land at Treanlawn, Killoe played host to the County Longford Agricultural Show and it proved to be a magnificent day in glorious weather conditions.

The event, which took place on Sunday, July 6, and continues to grow year on year, was one of the most successful ever due to its nationwide appeal and impressive number of visitors.

One of the main highlights which received a resounding thumbs up from everyone, and it was also alluded to by Show organising committee chairperson, JJ Farrell, and secretary, Ruth McNally, was the top quality music acts.

“The Show attracts people from all over Ireland to the county of Longford,” said Cllr Hagan. “People have come from as far as Donegal and Wicklow. It helps the local economy and businesses do well out of it. Local businesses can showcase their wares, and promote themselves on a national level.”

He added, “The other thing that was huge was the music event. A new marquee was installed and it featured four different bands.

“Brid Shaughnessy and Seamus Farrell were the local performers. Then we had the country singers, Jack Keogh and Patrick Feeney.

“People come just for the music. Loads of people from Northern Ireland came to enjoy the music and take part in the jiving.”
The weather was a massive positive with things improving dramatically after some showers on Sunday morning.

Cllr Hagan called it a “wonderful” occasion, enjoyed by all who attended. He stated that there was something for everybody with farming, livestock, sheep, horses and free children’s entertainment, the latter which he found very important.

As for 2026 and the possibility of hosting the show for a fourth consecutive year, Cllr Hagan said he will “wait and see how things go” in relation to that proposition.

He concluded, “I’d like to commend the great work and professionalism of the Show committee. They’re planning this huge event for twelve months beforehand. I'd also like to pay tribute to the people of Killoe. Without them, it wouldn’t be easy to access the show and especially, two neighbouring farmers, William Quinn and Mark McGoldrick gave car parking space.”
