Cllr Mark Casey receives plaudits for ‘raising the bar’ in Longford

Tributes were given to him by local representatives with his year as Cathaoirleach ending

Local representatives were united in their tributes to Cllr Mark Casey during his year as Cathaoirleach.


All of the local representatives praised Cllr Casey for his work and dedication as first citizen.

Cllr Paul Ross referred to the “huge amount of work” invested by the Independent representative during his second term as chairperson.


"I know a lot of things changed, the executive changed, a lot of the councillors changed but you're a steady force of nature at the helm of Longford County Council.”

Fianna Fáil Cllr Mick Cahill congratulated him for making a positive impression representing county Longford with distinction at home and abroad.


"You were very fair to this side of the house as well, which is most crucial in the role as chair, it was always balanced and neutral."


Cllr Turlough McGovern praised Cllr Casey for doing a fantastic job and for keeping "both sides of the house at bay".


Cllr Seamus Butler said it was a hectic 12-months and he referred to their three day trip to New York earlier this year.


"A lot of people think these are some sort of a holiday but it's far from it, it's one of the hardest three days you put in in the year."

Cllr Gerry Hagan said Cllr Casey could be proud.


"You raised the bar for future chairpersons in how you carried out your duties over the year, it's very commendable and you were fair to everyone.”


Leas Cathaoirleach, Cllr Peggy Nolan was also praised with Cllr Paul Ross highlighting her dedication, and work ethic while carrying out her duties.
