Man with facial injuries rushed to hospital following assault in Midlands shopping centre

A man was rushed to hospital following an assault at a shopping centre in the Midlands yesterday. 

Gardaí said the man, who was in his mid 30s, was assaulted at Laois Shopping Centre in Portlaoise at around 7.10pm. 

They said the man “suffered facial injuries” and was “bleeding from his mouth” following the assault. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. 

It’s understood shoppers came to the man’s aid and tried to use towels to stem the blood flow before the ambulance arrived.   

Investigating gardai said they are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to the assault.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident to contact them at Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
