The case was heard at Longford District Court
A Longford town woman who stole items from a local supermarket has been given the benefit of the Probation Act.
Ann McDonnell of 59 Ardnacassa Avenue, Ballinalee Rd pleaded guilty at the local district court to taking the goods from Tesco, Longford Shopping Cente at Richmond Street, Longford on November 11, 2024.
Sergeant Enda Daly said An Garda Síochána were called to the retail outlet at 12.30pm where they were informed by the deputy manager that a woman had used a fraudulent coupon in order to make a gain for herself by paying 0.04c instead of €15 for selected items.

Sgt Daly said Gardaí spoke to the defendant and she was subsequently arrested and brought to Longford Garda Station.
"She said during the interview she received a fraudulent voucher for items that were discounted to 0.04 cent, which were valued at €15," he added.
The goods were not recovered.
Ms McDonnell had 26 previous convictions.

Solicitor John Quinn asked if the case could be adjourned so his client could show she is dealing with her difficulties.
However, Judge Gearty felt further resources to deal with the case were not necessary and she applied the Probation Act.
