Four key county Longford projects receive timely injection of funds

Local Senator Joe Flaherty welcomed the commitment to deliver on a much needed Civil Defence HQ

Four key projects in county Longford have received a major funding boost with a cash injection of almost €200,000.


A much sought after dedicated HQ building for Longford Civil Defence has taken a major step forward with a €50,000 allocation towards the cost of purchasing a site under the Community Recognition funding.


Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, also announced allocations of up to €50,000 for Luis na Greine FRC, Granard, Moyne Community School and Longford Tidy Towns.

Local Fianna Fáil Senator Joe Flaherty said: “This is the first and real tangible evidence of the commitment to deliver on a much needed Civil Defence HQ for Longford.


"The Dept are very much aware of the need for such a facility but the critical first step was the identification of a suitable site and we are now making progress in this regard."


A total of €50,000 in funding is being provided to Luis na Greine in Granard for an enhancement outdoor space, while Moyne Community School will benefit from €47,775 in funding for drainage and resurfacing work at their school pitch.

Longford Tidy Towns is set to receive a €50,000, which will enable work on a number of key landmark sites in the town.


Local Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy, also welcomed news that four local projects in County Longford have secured funding of up to €50,000 each.


Deputy Micheál Carrigy said this is another 'great boost' for Longford.


"Each of these projects plays an important role in building strong, inclusive, and welcoming communities.


"This funding recognises the incredible work being done on the ground and supports the local response to population growth and community integration.


"I want to commend all involved for their vision and commitment to strengthening local services.”


The Community Recognition Fund was established to support areas that have welcomed people from other countries in recent years, helping to improve and expand local infrastructure.


To date, it has delivered €100 million in funding across Ireland.
