Speaking to the Leader, Club Longford Chairperson Derek Sheridan, stated that, “the fund for the top prize has been increased from €40,000 in 2024 to €50,000 this year and the chance to win the new Toyota RAV4".

He said the annual draw is vital in terms of raising vital funding with all monies distributed to the senior Longford men's team, the senior Longford hurlers and the Longford ladies Gaelic football team.

Mr Sheridan stated there has been fantastic efforts by clubs in Longford who have supported the draw and in previous years they had a target of collecting €100,000 and this year they are looking to increase that.

"It is a huge fundraiser for ourselves and for Longford GAA, it's a vital cog in the running of Longford GAA and covering expenses that will be due.

"There are a lot of player expenses, there are a lot of bus expenses, meal expenses, there's a lot of money involved in running all of these teams and maybe more-so than people realise."

Club Longford have slashed the price for one ticket this year from €50 to €20 to appeal to more younger people and people online and make them more accessible.

Mr Sheridan said that money raised by Club Longford has also gone towards funding for the planned Centre of Excellence and developments are expected in relation to that over the coming months.

Longford GAA County Board purchased a 32 acres site beside Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for €1 million in July 2023 and they plan to develop their own Centre of Excellence.

"We are also aiming to kickstart the Centre of Excellence over the next couple of months and will be forming a steering committee to start dealing with the plans for and where we intend to get with it. It will obviously be built in stages because the money is so vast and we just need to put a plan together, most likely a five year plan, but I don't know that for definite yet."
