The Longford Water Area Safety Committee has been re-established and as we are in the middle of National Water Safety Awareness week (May 19 - 25) they are urging the public to enjoy the water but respect the risk.

Water Safety Area Committee Chairperson Emma Reid outlined that the group ‘are committed to ensuring safety on our local waterways and will work hard to promote and support Water Safety Ireland programmes and water safety initiatives in the area’.

The committee, which includes Patrice Allen (Secretary) and Mark Sheridan (PRO), reminds every one of the importance of staying safe around water as we mark Water Safety Awareness Week.

Ms Reid continued, “Whether you’re swimming, fishing, boating, or just enjoying time by our lakes or rivers, water safety should always be a priority. Water can be fun, but it can also be unforgiving.

A few simple precautions can save lives. Let’s work together to prevent drownings and promote a culture of safety in our community.”
