Trip of a lifetime: Longford youngster visits Brussels after winning prestigious competition

Cian Kilmurray, a 6th class pupil at St Dominic’s National School, recently visited Brussels after winning a prestigious essay competition run by Midlands-North-West MEP Nina Carberry

A  pupil from St Dominic's National School, Kenagh has made his school, family, and community proud by bringing his ideas for a better future all the way to the European Parliament.

Cian Kilmurray, a 6th class pupil at St Dominic’s National School, recently visited Brussels after winning a prestigious essay competition run by Midlands-North-West MEP Nina Carberry.

The competition invited students to share their thoughts on how to improve their local area, with the theme “How to Make Your Local Place a Better Place.”

Encouraged by his teacher, Ms Clare Balfe, Cian entered the competition alongside his classmates. His essay stood out, earning him the top prize and the opportunity of a lifetime.

As part of his prize, Cian travelled to the European Parliament where he met with MEP Nina Carberry and shared his ideas on community improvement and local development. The visit gave Cian a glimpse into the workings of the EU and how young voices can influence real change.

St Dominic’s NS and the entire Kenagh community are celebrating Cian’s achievement, proud to see one of their own take such a meaningful step onto the European stage.
