She was a very special lady. She was loved and trusted by so many. Anytime she met someone, it was always with a smile and a kind word. You knew right away when meeting her that she was sincere and a loving person. There was a kindness about her that made you feel good. She was never judgmental and always accepting, though she was not shy about giving out her words of wisdom. Especially to her beloved grandchildren.
When her husband Cornelius died 49 years ago, Catherine was faced with unexpected challenges. She was a widowed mom of two teenage boys, facing a new business venture in a new town. But she was strong, and she made countless new lifelong friends and had many laughs through her work at the Mountain Valley. Her core values, her tremendous work ethic, her sense of decency, her code of honesty, and most of all her unwavering faith in God helped her persevere.
As a strong and determined lady, she soldiered on. She made many friends and throughout the years came to peace with and began to enjoy a life she never expected. The Mountain Valley became more than a family business. It was a gathering place where so many friends enjoyed good times.
