Longford Drug Driver gets one year driving ban

A man stopped by Gardaí while driving under the influence of cocaine was banned from the road for one year and fined €500 at Longford District Court.

James Heighton (28) Cross Country Cottage, Ballymahon Longford entered a guilty plea to driving a vehicle while there was a quantity of cocaine in his system greater than the concentration specified in Section 4 (1A) of the Road Traffic Act.

Sergeant Enda Daly said that on September 7, 2023 at Mullawornia, Ballymahon officers stopped a vehicle driven by the defendant. An oral fluid test returned a positive reading for cocaine.

Solicitor Frank Gearaty said he client had sought treatment after this incident and is now drug free and has a Narcotics Anonymous badge. Sgt Daly agreed with the contention that it was not a high reading.

Judge Bernadette Owens registered a conviction and imposed a fine of €500 with a one year driving ban.
