The Mostrim Players Drama Group fundraiser, The Secret Singer, was heralded as a great success by the organisers.
The event took place over St Patrick's Day weekend and saw nine masked singers and two dance groups taking the stage. The fundraiser was part of a grand plan to find a permanent home for Mostrim Players.
Organiser Pauline Flood was pleased with the community support for the event: “We are delighted with how it went. It was such a professional production. Everything went to plan; the music, the lights, every aspect of the performance was stunning. We even had streamers at the end!”
The judging panel of Paul Ross, John Rooney, Aishling Rynn and Laura Doyle ran the rule over the contestants.

There were two winners: The People's Choice and The Judge's Choice. Gemma Cheevers won the Judge's Choice, while the People's Choice was won by Shanaibh Flood.
Pauline said there was a great turn out: “Jimmy Connell performed wonderful as usual. There were 260 in attendance, people came from all over. The special guest star was Longford Rose Sarah Lee Green. She performed three songs at the end.”
The singers were accompanied by dancers Oonagh O'Ferrall, Kate Doherty, Amie Belton, Lucy Grant, Roisin Greene, Ciara Crossan, Shanaibh Flood and Freya Lily O'Connor.

This Mostrim Players's fundraiser got lots of backing: “Without our sponsors and our supporters we wouldn't have been able to run this unique event. We are the first group in county Longford to put on The Secret Singer, but I'd say we won't be the last. All of this effort is to save up for a space of our own in the future.”
The Secret Singer is similar to the popular TV show The Masked Singer but the Mostrim Players have put their own slant on it.
The Masked singer took place on Sunday, March 16, in The Community Centre, Edgeworthstown.
