Ireland Reads is an initiative of the Government of Ireland to celebrate the joy of reading. It is supported by public libraries and organisations that promote reading, literature and the arts.
On Saturday, February 22, there were events throughout county Longford. Ballymahon Library had author Patricia Gibney, Edgeworthstown Library had poet Noel Monahan, Granard Library had poet John Noonan, Lanesboro Library had Nicole Rank, Drumlish Library had Lorena Spalla and Longford Library had author Gerry Boland.
With local poets and writers taking part in these inspiring workshops and open mic sessions, everyone from adults to children, enjoyed the fulfilment of listening to authors read and the exhilaration of creating their own written work.
In Longford Library, hosted by Longford Writers Group, we had author Gerry Boland read some of his wonderful poems to the group. Then we had some of our writers read some of their own work and Gerry kindly finished off the session with a story from his collection.
Each of the writers showed a different style of writing with various literary genres covered. Overall it was a very enjoyable event.
