The children's play was enjoyed by adults and young people alike, the play that depicted family, friendship and loyalty
One of the hidden gems of Longford Lights was the children's play Luminaria. This delightfully playful work was a real treat for children and adults alike.
Performed in St John's Hall, Church Street the play was an entrancing treat. During her residency with Backstage Theatre, over five years ago, director Maisie Lee began working with writer Fionnuala Gygax on her debut play Lúminaria.
They used this time to develop this new work by initially carrying out a series of workshops with a number of primary schools classes over a six week period.

Through puppet making workshops and character and plot brainstorming sessions, these workshops involved children in the initial stages of show creation ensuring that the show spoke directly to its target market.
The Longford audience thrilled at the fantastic journey of Lúna as her adventure into the sky to find the light to protect her mother and the villagers from darkness unfolded.
The Backstage Theatre production was supported by Arts Council Ireland with development support from Creative Ireland, Longford Arts Office and Roscommon Arts Centre.
