Award winning Longford egg producers, O'Halleran Family Farm in Kenagh, have publicly thanked their neighbours for the coming to their assistance as Storm Éowyn bared his teeth.

"This is not a storm we will be forgetting in a hurry!", they posted on their Facebook page.

Their post continued, "At 3:30am on Friday morning we lost power here on the farm and went straight out to get generators started to ensure our cows were kept milked and our hens fed and watered.

"We discovered we were in the process of losing the roofs on two of our poultry sheds and had already lost the door on our calf shed by this time.
"Phone signal was on its way out but luckily we managed to get through to a local neighbour who at 5am despite the red warnings and trees down blocking his path he came out with his tractor and delivered multiple silage trailers to the back of our sheds to try and break the wind and save their roofs.
"When the weather eased and the red warning was over we were very thankful to see the damage had been minimized by the trailers breaking the winds & we were even more thankful to see the people who started arriving in to our yard to help.
"Despite no phone signals and being unable to ring anybody, several family members, friends and neigbours all called into our yard to offer assistance and when the winds died down thankfully with everyone’s helps we got a temporary fix done on the poultry sheds to ensure our hens were safe.
"We are posting this to highlight that despite the red warnings, farmers do have to go out in these conditions because animal welfare is our top priority despite other narratives that may be out there. This storm also showed us how lucky we are to have some great people around us who could help us make sure our animals were safe & looked after.
"Stay safe out there everybody & think of the farmers that are out there working through all types of conditions to make sure food is put on your tables."
