The new year began for Lough Ree RNLI with a generous donation from the people of Lanesboro and Ballyleague on the northern shore of the lake. Visiting the Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat station at Coosan Point, Athlone, Alan Horohoe, manager Super Valu, Lanesboro presented the charity with a cheque for €500. He thanked the people of Lanesboro and Ballyleague for their support and also Bernard Keane of SuperValu who facilitated collection boxes in the store.
"The donation was in keeping with the company’s policy of supporting local initiatives," He said.

Thanking SuperValu for the donation Lough Ree RNLI Treasurer Vincent Rafter said, "Local support is greatly appreciated and vital to the provision of the RNLI volunteer lifeboat on the lake. Our crews train on a weekly basis and it costs almost €1,600 per year to train just one crew member."
This coming Thursday,9 January Lough Ree RNLI hosts its annual Table Quiz in The Bounty at Buccaneers RFC, Athlone. Tables of four cost €40 and the quiz begins at 8pm.
