1,600 Longford drivers were issued with penalty points during 2023, according to figures from the CSO.

The data suggests that Leitrim drivers are among the safest in the country with only 1000 drivers in the county receiving penalty points.

Motorists that accrue 12 penalty points in three years are automatically disqualified from driving for six months.

The county with the highest number of drivers being issued points was in Dublin where over 37,000 people were recorded as getting points.
